Drone Based Search and Rescue

For the March 2018 Meetup of the North Texas Drone Users Group, the guest was Officer Adkins of the Arlington Police Department’s Drone-based search and rescue team. APD has 9 officers in 6 units trained to use drones in their police service. He clarified that the department does not use drones for surveillance. Their current tool of choice is the Mavic Pro. Officers adhere to FAA rules including a 400-foot operating ceiling. This is yet another tool the APD can use to send into a situation instead of putting a human in harms way.
