A lunar eclipse was happening so I conspired with a coworker to find a good vantage point to take some pictures. The trick is that north Texas is very flat. The actual eclipse was going to start relatively high in the sky. By the time the full eclipse was happening the sun will have risen making it impossible to see. The challenge was to find a location with a good uninterrupted view west. I choose a park on Lake Arlington so that the moon would be over the lake.
We met up at the lake some time after 4am. The eclipse started and we were already setup with tripods pointing west in the cold morning. As the eclipse began other people showed up. Just as the eclipse was reaching totality it was close enough to the horizon so that you could see it juxtaposed with objects on the ground before it disappeared completely.
