X-Men: First Class

I really enjoyed this X-Men movie. I think it might be the best of the series when it comes to character and story. Xavier has a couple of cheesy moments. There are references to his hair. When the action starts he plays Jack Ryan to Magneto’s John Clark – that reference will make sense to fans of Tom Clancy’s spy novels. Kevin Bacon is great as a baddy worthy of a James Bond movie complete with submarine and a plan to blow up the world. This story is mixed with CIA operatives in Vegas and groovy 60s dialog. The climax of the movie peaks at the Cuban missile crisis that is a treat for history buffs. There’s a cameo by Wolverine and an older Mystique. There’s no Stan Lee cameo or post-credits teaser. I don’t know if we’ll see another movie in this series but if they keep this level of quality of character and story then I’ll go see it.
