The trailer for the new Godzilla movie is out. We still are not getting a good view of the big guy. This is good. They are saving the reveal for the theater. We get to see more than we did in the teaser but we still have not gotten to see his classic profile.…

When I first heard about the Alfonso Cuarón movie
Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, and the voice of Ed Harris, it sounded like a space version of
Open Water and I wasn’t interested. I heard that it was stunning to see on the big screen or in iMax format but I managed to resist.…

Just saw the RoboCop remake. Thoughts? Well, it didn’t suck (…as bad as Total Recall). But unfortunately it wasn’t great either.
The opening scenes of the
Pat Novak show staring Samuel L. Jackson were supposed to evoke the same over-the-top media as we saw in the original.…

The 1987 RoboCop has some endearing parts that have made it so memorable. The movie actually holds up pretty well after 27 years. It takes place in an ambiguous near future where artificial hearts are advertised on TV and there’s violence in Mexico.…

I finally saw
The Desolation of Smaug and really enjoyed it. I’m not much of a fan of the Lord of the Rings. I’ve read the books and seen the movies. I actually liked the
Two Towers. I have a hard time staying awake through the extended tedium of watching hobbittes walk to a fro.…

I first read Ender’s Game back when “Children of the Mind” was not yet available in paperback. I really enjoyed the novel. I enjoyed the sequels but felt that it was weird the way the two stories were melded together. I felt that Ender’s Game was fine as a self-contained story and it did not need three sequels.…

Now available on iTunes is this summer’s big movie
Pacific Rim. I saw this movie premier at G-Fest XX in Chicago with a full theater of kaiju film aficionados. It was a great example of an audience improving the experience.…

I just got another sale notification from Amazon. My VHS tape of
Godzilla vs Destroyah is on its way to a new home in Washington state. I’m glad to see it going to someone who will watch it. I cannot bear to throw them away when I can watch it on my Apple TV any time.…

This is an amazing documentary that takes you into the world of the Orca Tilikum killing of his trainer Dawn Brancheau. The story is tragic but what is even more tragic is the way these beautiful, intelligent creatures are treated. The hero in this story is amazingly OSHA who found the working environment to be unsafe.…

Pretty scenery but the movie gets lost in its own twists. It’s better than the first Wolverine and the third x-men movie that it follows.
The formula for a successful series of movies is pretty simple: the first movie is unique and captures the audience while introducing the characters; the second movie tries to recapture the magic of the first movie but amp up the stakes and let you explore the world the character inhabits; and a successful third movie should take what you know about your characters and take it in a new direction.…

Not a bad movie but very predictable. It followed the plot of a Die Hard movie lacking Bruce Willis. He should have bought this script instead of his last Russian adventure. It looks like there’s a remake already coming in ‘White House Down’.…
