I just finished watching the last of 10 episodes of the show 1883. Isabel May stars in this prequel to the Yellowstone show supported by and amazing cast of supporting actors and cameos. Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, Graham Green, and Billy Bob Thornton all show up. I think Hanks spoke just 3 words. Rita had a girls moment with Faith Hill.
Isabel May’s character arch is so amazing. The show opens with a flash forward to events that happen in the penultimate episode. As a story telling crutch I would have preferred that they not do that. As a prequel we already have too much foreknowledge.

The first two episodes start off in Texas. The characters have already made it all the way from Tennessee. They find Fort Worth so bad that they risk dying of dysentery just to get away.
The Fort Worth bits were filmed at the Stockyards on Exchange Avenue. They needed little more than limestone curb and dirt-covered streets to make the transformation back 140 years
Yellowstone’s a good show. It’s the typical Kevin Costner vehicle. When I ran out of episodes, 1883 was the natural next step. I’m glad I took that step and heartedly recommend the show. Next is 1923 which is still has new episodes coming out.
