I just finished watching the NetFlix 6-episode show, Zero Day. The movie picks up where Bruce Willis in Live Free or Die Hard leaves off. Robert De Niro is a Clintonesque former president brought in after a nation-wide “fire sale” cyber attack that lasted one minute and claimed the lives of over 3,000 Americans and ended with a threat that it would repeat.
The series features the typical deep-state paranoia and uber-powerful technobabble. At one point they fall back on really bad analog for secure communications. You have to ignore the techology (and medical) and typical Hollywood conveniences. There’s also a sub-plot about project Proteus that never really gets resolved. They are trying to make an analog to MKUltra but it does not pay off.
If that were all that this movie had to offer, that would have been the end of it. But it’s the tech corp collusion with government plot that was most frightening and realistic. This show was filmed last fall; back in a time before Doge and the Elon adventures had begun. If you like political thrillers, it’s worth a watch. If you get enough in your daily headlines, skip it.
