FB Marketplace

I’m trying to part with an old futon sofa. It cost a lot of money new and it’s still in pristine condition. I’m trying to sell it on Facebook Marketplace. For about 20% of the purchase price. After I post it I immediately get inquiries using the exact same script. They all have the same pattern: (1) want to buy sight-unseen, (2) no questions about the product, (3) no negotiation on price, (4) will have a “cousin” pick up, and (5) want to pay with Zelle. Individually, each one of these is a red flag.

My guess that this is just a new variation on scam we’ve see before with Zelle being used because of its security flaws — don’t use Zelle. There is no cousin. That’s just an excuse for why they cannot bring cash. There’s no intent to buy the product.
