Every year about this time, I’m tempted by the allure of a suite of new operating systems for my computer and mobile devices. This year is no different except for the addition of iPadOS which has the promise of letting my backward corporate web applications be functional on my primary daily device. It’s very tempting.
This year I was traveling during WWDC and did not immediately install the suite of developer betas immediately after the keynote. I watched the presentation and look forward to many of the new features. I decided to wait this year until at least the public beta.
Historically these betas have be really stable. We are working on version iOS 13 and I’ve lost count of the macOS version number. The core of the OS is rock solid. The actual risk is very low. If anything it’s that first update after WWDC that you need to worry about. By Beta 3 you’re unlikely to have any trouble.
This year I plan to wait. We’ll see how long I hold out.
I was able to hold out until Beta 2. So far only minor issues. Liking dark mode and new CarPlay. Being able to use my work applications in iPadOS is the real winner.
