I’ve been to three rocket launches at the Kennedy Space Center but my favorite launch was in a field near Justin, Texas in 2003. A buddy had invited us out to watch the model rockets launch the big ones with FAA clearance. My kids each assembled their Estes rockets. While the big guys would seek 10,000 foot, I was hoping my kids’ rockets would leave the launch pad.
The whole set up was very professional. The kids put their rockets on the launch rods and got to press the button from a safe distance. I was still shooting pictures with my old Canon 35mm film camera. I’m happy with the pictures that I got including each kid pressing their respective launch button. My favorite of the bunch was taken at the moment of the launch. The exposure captured the ghost of the rocket and the smoke trail.
